Natural Stone Facts

• WHAT AFFECTS THE PRICING OF NATURAL STONE?

Several factors will affect the price: availability and origin of the material, the color of the granite, marble or quartz you choose, the type of edge profile that you select, and the complexity of the particular fabrication.

• CAN I CUT ON MY GRANITE COUNTER TOP?

Granite is harder than your knife blades and will dull them very quickly. It is an extremely tough, durable material and can be used intermittently as a cutting surface without fear of scratching the stone.

• CAN I PLACE HOT PANS ON GRANITE?

Granite is formed by extreme heat and pressure combined beneath the earth’s crust. It cannot be affected by heat from the cook top or frying pan. A lit flame placed under the granite will have no melting effect and will not leave any burned or scarred marks, as it does with laminates, composites or engineered stone.

• WILL GRANITE STAIN?

In general, no. All stone, however, is porous to some extent, but granite has very little porosity. Most colors will never show any moisture. A few colors may show some moisture if exposed for a period of time. Our installers will seal the counter tops after they are installed.

• DO GRANITE SEAMS SHOW?

The visibility of seams will depend on the granularity, color and pattern. A small uniform granite will not be as apparent as varied grain. A dark color will be less apparent than a light color. A dramatic pattern with swaths of color will show more seams than a uniform pattern. Customers have found that the beauty of natural granite outweighs the concern of seams.

• CAN GRANITE BE REPAIRED?

It is very difficult to damage granite.  If you should, somehow, manage to cause damage to your granite, contact us ASAP, and we can almost certainly repair and re-seal your granite.
