Popular in Spain and Portugal, sangria is a punch made with red wine and chopped fruit. The drink is often made with brandy, triple-sec and orange juice. Sangria is often served with tapas — or small plates — of food. This recipe for sangria was developed from a recipe shared by a restaurant in Seville, Spain.
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 bottle red wine
- 1/2 cup brandy
- 1/2 cup triple-sec
- 1/3 cup orange juice
- 1/2 tbsp. sugar
- 2 cups Fanta or Sprite
- 1 lemon
- 1 lime
- 1 apple
- 1 orange
- 1 cinnamon stick
DIRECTIONS:
- Add red wine to a pitcher.
- Stir in Fanta or Sprite and orange juice.
- Add cinnamon stick.
- Stir in sugar, brandy and triple-sec.
- Wash all fruit.
- Quarter lemon and lime and cut into small strips.
- Core apple and cut into small pieces.
- Cut orange (with peel on) into small bits.
- Stir fruit into sangria.
- Let chill before serving.
About Tres Amigos
Tres Amigos are three friends who met while studying abroad in Spain. While studying in Sevilla, the trio frequented a restaurant that served sangria in the northern part of the city. One of the waiters shared ingredients for sangria that helped the group create this recipe.
