Dumpling Recipe

At Spectrum Stone Designs we know the importance of not only how a kitchen looks, but how it makes you feel. Of course, we love designing one-of-a-kind, top-of-the-line kitchens for our customers, but what we love even more is hearing stories from customers about the memories they are making in their homes with their loved ones after we’ve helped them make their living spaces. That’s why we are sharing this dumpling recipe, one of our favorites.

We recently gave you some advice on how to prep your kitchen for a makeover. Whether that be a few small touches like new hardware, or a full-on project with new countertops, once you feel great about the way your kitchen looks, you’ll be itching to spend more time there. In the kitchen the magic happens – and by magic – we mean the making of all those delicious food and drinks that keep your family and friends’ bellies full and hearts happy.

We wanted to share one of our owner’s favorite family recipes below. And we would love to hear from you – favorite family recipes, best kitchen memory or anything that has brought your family joy in your kitchen. You can share your favorites with us on Facebook or Instagram.

A Dumpling Recipe: Slick dumplings made with turkey or beef

Ingredients:
  1. Plain flour
  2. Broth from the turkey or beef
 Directions:
  1. Measure approximately 3/4 cup of flour with 1/4 cup of broth. Do this while your broth is still warm.
  2. Mix these together until you have a soft ball of dough. (Take out your mat that you make pie crusts and cookie dough on.)
  3. Spread flour on your mat then put your ball of dough on it.
  4. Cut the ball in half.
  5. Roll 1/2 of the dough until it is super thin. You will need to spread flour on the top of the sheet of dough and on the rolling pin to keep it from sticking. Roll until you can see through it.
  6. Heat the leftover broth in the pot.
  7. Once it comes to a boil turn the heat down, but keep it at a low boil. It is going to be necessary to add water to the broth when adding the dumplings.
  8. Now that you have the dough thin enough to read a book through , it is time to cut the dough.
  9. Cut it approx. 2″  to 3″ in length and 1″ wide.  A pizza cutter may help.
  10. Do this to both balls of dough.
  11. As broth is gently boiling add your dumplings…ONE AT A TIME!  Again, you may need to add water to the broth.
  12. It only takes several minutes for the dumplings to cook, and your broth will turn to gravy.
  13. Stir the dumplings gently as you are adding them so they don’t stick. Hint: Make the first ball of dough, cut, and cook.
  14. Put the dumplings in a big bowl with the gravy and set on table.
  15. Take the rest of the broth,  2nd ball of dough and repeat these steps.  Hint: Al ot of this recipe is trial and error.

This recipe came from our owner, Page Hasting’s grandmother, and has always been one of her favorites.  We hope you enjoy as much as we do.
