Spectrum Stone Designs shares some family based activities in the kitchen

Of course, some fun activities in the kitchen involve cooking, which can not only provide entertainment, but also develop and improve certain skills in children. Wellness Club says even planning some meals together before actually cooking them is a good way to bond. Teach kids about the ingredients and the importance of eating a balanced meal by going over the recipe with them. For younger children, help them can get involved by giving you suggestions for meals each night of the week and picking which night for which meal. For older kids and teenagers, have them volunteer to prepare and even cook one of the weekly meals. There are so many skills children can learn from preparing food and cooking in the kitchen. Measuring out portions can help them with their math skills. Immediately washing dirty dishes and hands can help them learn the importance of good hygiene and cleanliness.

For younger kids learning their alphabet, KidsToysGo suggests baking or making food like cookies or biscuits in the shapes of different letters. Let your child or children have fun making words on the kitchen counter with the finished product. You can take it one step further and have your child help you make the letters before they are done so they get more practice with the different shapes of letters.

For toddler aged children, you can’t go wrong with pots and pans. We’re sure your little guy or gal has already found them at some point. Bring out utensils for them to turn those pots and pans into drums and they can start their own little band!

Last but not least, GAMES! They’ve been around forever and never go out of style. Whether classic board games like Checkers, card games like Solitaire or games you make up, games are a great way to keep the whole family entertained and laughing together. The Chaos and the Clutter Blog says Minute to Win It style games are fun, mimicking the popular television game show. A quick internet search can give you ideas for different games you and your kids can compete in under a minute. Some examples from The Chaos and The Clutter: Face the Cookie, Stack Attack, Movin’ on Up, Junk in the Trunk, Suck it Up, Penny Hose and Keep it Up. Don’t feel like planning your own game? Throw a Twister mat down on the kitchen floor and you and your family will be giggling for hours! Bring out Monopoly, Checkers or another classic that you can begin to teach your kids if they haven’t already learned it.

When it comes to having fun in your kitchen with your family this holiday season, the options are endless. Get creative and think outside of the box or use these suggestions we’ve given to help you enjoy time inside with your loved ones.
