Quartz countertops style your dwelling in elegance and class. When it comes to the down and dirty of keeping those beautiful quartz surfaces glowing, frequency is best. Spectrum Stone Designs, Central Virginia’s leading natural stone fabricator, explains how to clean quartz countertops.
- Warm water, mild detergent and a soft cloth – Consider applying this technique after every use or at least once a day to keep that luminous look.
- Respect the spills – You likely selected quartz because it is non-porous. However, when it comes to wine, coffee and tea, treat your quartz surface like the surface of your teeth. Clean up spills immediately to avoid trouble over time.
- Sometimes it pays to wait – The smooth surface of quartz is your friend when it comes to clean up. Nail polish, for example, can be difficult to wipe up as the color tends to spread rather than absorb. Allow it to dry for an easy cleanup with a soft plastic putty knife. This tool can also be used for dried-on food and grease.
- Daily cleanup – DO use mild dish soap or a spray mixture of water and vinegar. DO use soft cloths or disinfectant wipes. DO NOT use anything containing bleach. DO NOT use abrasive sponges.
- Greasy cleanup – DO use degreaser formulated specifically for quartz countertops. DO NOT use anything containing bleach. This is worth repeating. So many products on the market rely on the cleaning power of bleach. Check the label twice.
- Gooey cleanup – DO use a citrus cleaner, such as Goo Gone, to help with sticky messes. Allow the product to set for a few minutes before wiping with a soft cloth. DO NOT use anything other than a plastic putty knife when trying to remove the goo by scraping.
- Ink and permanent marker cleanup – DO use rubbing alcohol on a soft cloth or a citrus product. If this doesn’t work, DO try Goo Gone. DO NOT use traditional cleaners such as nail polish remover, bleach or any cleaners containing acid or alkaline.
