When the Pantone Color Institute identifies the hot color of the year, gradients of the new must-have tone of the season show up on everything from clothing to tech gadgets to leather seat piping in luxury vehicles. And yes, even in the trendiest of home design.
Living Coral won the honors for 2019. It’s a beautifully exotic shade. But if the orangish pink hue isn’t capturing your heart, there are plenty of complimenting pairings on the palette to choose from. Like the automobile industry, you can add in Living Coral minimally as a pop of color to catch the eye.
That’s what Sherwin Williams did. The official paint company of HGTV named Reflecting Pool as their 2019 anchor color, then complimented this core with grey, blue, rust and yellow tones for a sophisticated look and black, white and brown for a more traditional vibe. Behr paint completely embraced a variable theme. Start with a Blueprint—the name of their key color—then add on one of four palette options: monochromatic, neutrals, pastels or jewel tones. It’s a pretty wide range to meet the many tastes of a wide range of consumers and is sure to have an option to meet your preferences.
Benjamin Moore opted for ultra-conservative. Metropolitan is the paint company’s no-risk staple of the year, and even the shade closest to Living Coral is a long leap to more of a soft pink called Head Over Heels. The rest of the palette is filled out with more greys and soft tans. Only a deep charcoal, brown and a green reminiscent of the 90s step away from the other colors that are slight shades apart. It’s a good safe choice if you don’t want to paint for awhile or need a neutral palette to put your house on the market.
