It’s officially warming up, and that means that at Spectrum Stone Designs, we are excited to be spending a lot of time outdoors. Grilling season is here, and we love helping customers bring their outdoor spaces to life this time of year. An outdoor kitchen is an amazing way to elevate your backyard or outdoor living area, and we want to help give you some ideas on how you can improve your current outdoor kitchen or add a brand new one.
A good reminder from HGTV is to make sure that whatever materials and designs you choose for your outdoor kitchen match the design inside of your home. Even though they are two separate areas, you want them to flow together seamlessly. This will be especially beneficial on pleasant mornings and evenings when you can leave the doors open. At Spectrum Stone Designs, we have many amazing options of natural stone for an outdoor kitchen, and one of our favorites is granite. It’s so durable that it can withstand most types of weather and climate (hot and humid in the summer or heavy winds and snow in the wintertime). HGTV says it’s good to avoid heavy details in veining in granite when using outdoors, as it might not stand up well to UV rays.
Another fan favorite for outdoor kitchens that we love to install is marble. The Spruce says it’s a great option because it’s tough against UV rays, it’s visually appealing, and it’s durable. Another great thing about marble is that it comes in many different beautiful styles and colors, giving you options that will bring out the best of your personal style. Many stones, including marble, need to be sealed every few years to ensure they properly withstand the elements outside, but it’s a simple process that Spectrum Stones Design does regularly. Natural stone is beautiful anywhere it’s installed, but outside it can be extra special as the weather elements can naturally age the stone over time, keeping it looking unique and beautiful.
The The New York Times suggests picking the perfect location for your outdoor kitchen before you begin nailing down details. Many think putting an outdoor kitchen in a back, unused corner of the yard will force them to use that space, but it’s recommended to keep the kitchen as close to the house as possible, where it’s more likely to be used. Having everything closer to the house will save money on running services like gas, electricity and plumbing.
We’re excited at Spectrum Stone Designs for the warmer weather and spending time in our outdoor spaces. We would love to help you build your dream outdoor kitchen or brainstorm ideas for the future. Our team of experts looks forward to chatting with you and potentially visiting your space to see how we can help bring it to life.
