What-color-is-the-next-gray

For quite some time, gray has been the “it” color for home interior walls and even outdoor spaces, but is the shade here for good? This month, we’re looking into some new universal shades that are gaining popularity and could start to take over for gray.

Better Homes and Gardens predicts that this year, grays will remain popular, but will gravitate more towards the warmer shades of gray. Warmer shades in general are expected to be popular, from gray to neutral undertones like beige, brown tones and mushroom shades. Beiges, tans and warmer grays are expected to be seen more in homes than neutral, cooler undertones.

In a Sherwin Williams Designer Panel study that interviewed 250 top interior designers and decorators, one person said “The gray on gray on gray trend has got to go.” Gray still may be a popular neutral, but you may see more of it in toned down versions. Many claim the all-gray or all-white look can be too cold, not bringing enough emotion or mood to a home. This study, like Better Home and Gardens mentioned above, mostly expects to see more warm colors in the near future. Expect to see beige, warmer neutrals, including grays and even some warm greens.

2020 has been a tough year, so what better way to look forward to 2021 than with calm, soothing shades? Paint company Behr echoes what has already been mentioned and tells Yahoo! News light browns with shades of caramel or brown sugar undertones will be popular, over shades of brown or tan with yellow undertones. Behr says like foods that boost the mood, colors can have the same effect and says warm and earthy blues and greens can enhance a room, especially if paired with the warm shades of brown and tan.

Some interior designers think gray will stay as a popular neutral colors but most feel it will gradually become less popular, with brown and tan warm neutrals taking center stage, helping to bring more warmth to the rest of 2020 and beyond.
